Launch of two new working groups by Gas Transmission System Operators in Bucharest
Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA) along with its counterpart Operators in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and, recently added, Ukraine created two new working groups for the implementation of the “Vertical Corridor” gas interconnector pipelines crossing Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Ukraine and the reverse flow in the Trans-Balkan pipeline system. The meeting was on senior management level and took place in the sidelines of the 4th High Level Group meeting of the Central and South-Eastern European Gas Connectivity (CESEC) in Bucharest, Romania on September 28, 2017.
Executives from all companies participating in the Vertical Gas Corridor will support the two working groups, aiming, within the coming period to intensify their meetings and take all necessary steps for exchanging information and know-how for the timely implementation of the project.
The proceedings of the meeting were chaired by Mr. Klaus-Dieter Borchardt, Director of Internal Energy Market (DG ENER) of the European Commission.
In July 19, 2017 Greek (DESFA), Bulgarian (Bulgartransgaz), Romanian (Transgaz) and Hungarian (FGSZ) Gas Transmission Operators and ICGB AD consortium, the contractor for the Greece-Bulgarian Interconnector (IGB) pipeline project, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the Vertical Gas Corridor project in Bucharest, Romania, while on September 9, 2016 Greek (DESFA), Bulgarian (Bulgartransgaz), Romanian (Transgaz) and Ukrainian (Uktransgaz) Gas Transmission Operators signed a relevant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), respectively.
On behalf of DESFA, Mr. Sotirios Nikas, President & CEO, who participated in the Steering Committee, commented that “this meeting is the ideal setting to take the next step and accelerate our joined forces towards our commitment for increasing cross-border cooperation, enhancing security of gas supply to the region and supporting projects of join interest.”
