The natural gas sector has an increasing geostrategic importance. The fields are far away from main consumption centres. Moreover important structural changes take place both in the European and the international natural gas market. Technology is also continuously evolving.
DESFA is actively participating in these developments through its presence where the energy policies take shape and through its relations with gas companies in other countries, aiming at the exchange of experience and know-how and at the development of partnerships in the expansion of infrastructures.
DESFA is an active member of the following organizations:
GIE (Gas Infrastructure Europe)
GIE is a union representing the operators of gas transmission and storage systems and of LNG terminals in Europe.
ENTSOG is a union representing the operators of transmission, storage and LNG systems in the member –states of the EU, having as mission the facilitation of the internal market integration and the cross – border trading of natural gas as well as ensuring the best management, the coordinated operation and the technically sound development of the European natural gas transportation networks.
ENTSOG’s establishment was mandated by the Community legislation (3rd energy package). It has a defined role in the development of the new Regulations that will rule the operation of the European natural gas transportation infrastructure.
One of DESFA’s officers holds a seat in the Board of Directors of ENTSOG.
