Meeting between DESFA and MER Skopje for the interconnection of the Natural Gas Transmission Systems of the two coutries
On Monday, November 6, the President and CEO of the Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA), Mr. Sotirios Nikas met with Mr. Mitko Andreevski, Consular on Energy Affairs of the Prime Minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Mr. Zoran Zaev, at the invitation of the latter, in Skopje.
During the meeting, the new government of FYROM expressed its commitment to the project of the interconnection of the Greek-FYROM Natural Gas Systems. Also the progress to date has been assessed and the next steps for the construction of the pipeline connecting the two countries have been further explored.
Among other thigs, the project will offer to FYROM the possibility of direct access to an alternative supply of natural gas from Greece and the opportunity to connect with other projects that are planned for the wider region. At the same time, it is going to create a new natural gas market for DESFA and more specifically for the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) of Revithoussa, which after the completion of the third tank will have the ability to export even greater amounts of LNG.
At the meeting participated Mr. Blagojche Koteski, CEO of MER Skopje and Mr. Joseph Florentin, Director of Corporate Development of DESFA. Following this meeting, DESFA representatives visited MER’s offices and had a discussion with the company’s high level executives.
